With the latest reports indicating that Todd Cantwell is about to sign for Rangers, further detail on the story has been revealed.

Vital Rangers understands that PSV Eindhoven was never interested in Cantwell to the extent that the Dutch club were not actually competing to sign the player.

An excellent source in the Netherlands told this outlet on the supposed link:

“To be honest, I have not heard anything about that.”

This is backed up by the total absence of any recent coverage of Cantwell in the major Dutch press titles and he is a player who is known over there having spent the second half of the 2017/18 season on loan at Fortuna Sittard.

Closing In

Such is the world of football rumours and press speculation, especially during a transfer window but it did seem strange that given the reported interest of PSV, that there was nothing more substantial in recent days.

Now it appears that Rangers are on the brink of their first signing of the current transfer window in Cantwell, with Sky Sports declaring the deal all but done.

On top of reports on Nicolas Raskin as well as the ongoing noise around Morgan Whittaker, Michael Beale’s pledge on new arrival appears set to be fulfilled.

Either side of the weekend would be the ideal time for two or three faces to arrive with the St Johnstone double header on the cards. The Scottish Cup tie in Perth on Saturday will be followed by the same fixture hosted at Ibrox next week, representing two games that Beale and the squad should be feeling comfortable and confident about, as well as allowing time and space for new arrivals to be introduced to their new surroundings.

Hopefully, we will soon be able to provide reaction to the confirmation of these proposed deals.
