It is now official, John Lundstram has left Sheffield United.

The player is out of contract and will join another club on a Bosman deal after the Blades confirmed the update on Tuesday.

Given that Rangers have been heavily linked to Lundstram in recent months, there is a decent chance that he will be heading north.

Last week, VitalRangers covered the farewell message from Bramall Lane teammate Jack O’Connell as well as the continued link to Ibrox from the Yorkshire Post.

As far back as January, The Athletic has reported this potential transfer and the speculation hasn’t gone away.

There will be competition for the 27-year old’s signature and Newcastle has been touted as a possible destination for the Liverpudlian, according to the Chronicle newspaper.

Application

Lundstram came in for criticism from some quarters as a bleak season panned out for the Blades.

It soon became clear that the player would not sign a new contract but stand-in boss Paul Heckingbottom was quick to put the record straight in terms of the former Everton youth’s desire and application.

As told by the Sheffield Star, Heckingbottom stated:

“One thing I’ll say about Lunny (John Lundstram), and I want this on record, is that he’s been fantastic in training and he applies himself well.”

“He’s found himself in a difficult situation. We’ll see how it pans out.”

“But I want it on record that he’s been nothing other than totally professional ever since we came in.”

With midfield reinforcements expected at Ibrox, this move fits the bill with an added bonus of no transfer outlay.

John Lundstram has the ability and skill-set to make an impact at Rangers, especially in rough and tumble of the Premiership.
