Rangers Swiss international striker Cedric Itten has spoke to the press in his native country, describing the ‘special feeling’ of winning the title.

The 24-year old former St. Gallen player has made an impact this season, mostly from the bench in what has been a transition year – his first in Glasgow.

Steven Gerrard has previously spoken about managing expectations from Itten, that whilst he is in the squad to contribute now, much more will come later from the powerful forward.

The translated article comes from the Swiss national press agency, Keystone SDA.

With six goals and two assists so far, from 30 appearances (eight starts) this term, Itten will be striving for more game time in the remainder of this season to make his mark with plenty left to play for.

He commented on the events of last weekend and the title win:

“Winning the title felt special indeed and given the current situation (with the pandemic).”

“The people here in Glasgow had an extremely emotional reaction.”

“For many fans, it felt like the biggest triumph – just because of the whole back story with the forced relegation in 2012”

“Rangers had been away from top flight football for a long time – and now everything came together”

He was asked further about the explosion of joy and passion from the Rangers supporters to which he responded:

“Even before our home game against St Mirren on Saturday, there were around 10 thousand outside the stadium.”

“The day after masses of fans celebrated winning the trophy with fireworks at the training ground. In the city, it went obviously high.”

“Over the course of ten years, Rangers supporters have sometimes suffered greatly – the feeling of redemption was correspondingly boundless.”

Now that is a colourful but very apposite summation of the scenes over the last few days.

The three-times capped Switzerland attacker has shown by his actions and language that he is aware of the demands and the realities of life at Ibrox – if he can find consistency to complement the  ongoing development of his game, Cedric Itten can go far in a Rangers jersey.
