Steven Gerrard declared that he is content with Rangers transfer business so far this season, but he is aiming for more additions to his squad.

Ahead of the Europa League game against Armenian champions Alashkert, the Gers boss spoke with an open approach at the press conference on Thursday afternoon.

With around two weeks of the transfer window remaining, up until the onset of the September international break, it is natural for speculation to increase regarding potential arrivals and exits at Ibrox.

Gerrard stated that he was happy with the acquisitions of John Lundstram and Fashion Sakala up to now, whilst hinting at ongoing efforts to further bolster his squad.

The manager actually went on to state that they are quite close to one new signing – believed to be Juninho Bacuna, currently at Huddersfield Town.

As reported by Rangers TV, he declared:

“We have identified targets that we are trying to bring in – there is a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes to make that happen and we have had some progress.”

The Scottish Premiership champion manager added, “We’re trying to make an addition it the midfield area, I can certainly tell you that.”

Constraints

The club will always have a list of targets, but at the moment quality upgrades will have a price tag that can’t be met.

It seems likely that one or two more players will come in the door, possibly a loan deal included, but VitalRangers fully expects a departure or two from Rangers first team line-up.

If that does happen, then it creates room and a budget allowance to make further moves.

Overall, it is clear that Gerrard and Ross Wilson aren’t standing still but they do have to act within the parameters and realities of Rangers current financial standing.
