With Rangers’ Scottish Premiership title hopes basically over with us falling 12 points behind rivals Celtic following our recent slip ups, whilst there’s plenty of disappointment at that in the fanbase, it’s still been a good season under manager Steven Gerrard and there’s every reason for hope in the future.

With Gerrard’s choice of words following the Scottish Cup loss to Hearts at the weekend, plenty feared that maybe the former England international was considering his own future at Ibrox, but having recharged himself ahead of Wednesday evening’s clash with Hamilton Academical, that certainly doesn’t sound the case.

“This is when the club needs me most to stay on. If you want to survive at this level you have to bounce back. I self-reflect, what I can and need to do better. Saturday was a low and I won’t deny that. I will always be honest. I am all in. I signed up to something here and I knew there would be real setbacks. We are always going to be challenged here. My job is to find solutions that give us long-term success. I have to identify why we go from Braga’s performance to 72 hours later not doing justice – but that is an exciting challenge for me. I don’t fear that challenge.”

With high expectations and a very good season until the wheels came off a touch in more recent matches, we simply have to use it as a learning curve and make sure that we bounce back for the rest of the year, finish on a high, and take some good confidence into the 2020/21 campaign looking to go that step further.

When Gerrard made the move to us he knew we’d have disappointments, as he says, but it’s the reaction to those moments that matter and I’m sure he’s learning, just as the players are.
