‘I find that strange’ – Rangers transfer target is criticised by club legend

|

Rangers transfer target Graeme Shinnie has been criticised by Barry Ferguson for ruling out a move to Ibrox, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

It was reported earlier this week that Steven Gerrard was a fan of the midfielder and was looking to add his talents to his first-team squad this summer.

However, it was also said his representatives and the player had ruled out a move to Glasgow so as not to tarnish his Aberdeen reputation.

Ferguson doesn’t understand that stance, but also doesn’t think Shinnie is getting into Rangers’ first-team right now anyway.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the former Gers captain said:

I don’t think he should be saying anything like that. There are plenty of players who’ve moved from Aberdeen to Rangers – of course they’re gonna get a bit of stick.

You’ve got to handle that stick. That’s part and parcel of football. He’s a good player, I can understand why Rangers and some clubs down in the [English] Championship are looking at him.

Is he going to come into the Rangers team? I doubt it, because I think Rangers need to now sign players that are going to come straight into that starting XI.

He is a good player Graeme Shinnie, don’t get me wrong. But if he’s gonna worry about getting abuse or a bit of stick off Aberdeen fans, I find that strange.

Shinnie was played out of position during Scotland’s humiliating defeat to Kazakhstan earlier today but any Rangers fans watching on would not have been impressed by his display, which was one of the worst in recent national team memory.

It’s unlikely he’s going to improve on the players currently at Ibrox and although available on a free transfer, a move for him right now doesn’t appear to make much sense, especially if he’s not that keen on it anyway.

This transfer looks like one we should be skipping.
