Pep Guardiola has given his seal of approval to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s appointment at Rangers.

Ahead of Manchester City’s game against Everton in the Premier League on Sunday, the world renowned coach was asked for his views on the move at today’s press conference.

It is known that GvB spent months learning directly from Guardiola and his coaching team, prior to his own spell managing in China.

The pair are said to be close, with a good understanding and a bond which blossomed from shared experiences in Barcelona with Gio keen to soak up as much know-how and understanding from a coach and mentor who is a heavy influence on his own style.

When asked about the move to Ibrox, Guardiola commented:

“I give compliments to him for this appointment at Rangers – of course Rangers is absolutely one of the greatest in Scotland.”

“It is is a huge opportuity for him. We’re in touch, he had a period here, (Gio) he is a lovely person, lovely guy so I wish him all the best.”

Hows that for an endorsement from the best in the game?

With Rangers losing one icon in a footballing sense, they have gained another from a different perspective. Van Bronckhorst is known and respected by his peers from his own playing career and the course that he is plotting in management.

Having played under the likes of Advocaat, Rijkaard, Wenger and Van Gaal – he already has a wealth of experience to tap into. Added to that is his own hard earned success in the Eredivisie as well as valuable learning and development under the wing of Pep Guardiola and the City Group to paint a very vibrant picture ahead at Ibrox.
