One of the main reasons that Rangers were successful last season was because there was a clear and obvious tactical plan that had been developed over a period of years, the improvements in the playing squad and extra depth leading us to a record breaking title win.

It wasn’t just down to Steven Gerrard to cajole and motivate the team, he surrounded himself with specialists in their field to get every ounce possible out of the side.

In Tom Culshaw he had a set piece expert that saw us win priceless points – especially against Celtic – but it was the impact of Michael Beale that was most telling, Gerrard might have had the plan or the idea of how he wanted to play, but it was Beale who designed and implemented the training to put it into action, that his loss was felt more than Gerrard’s paints it’s own picture.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is no different.

Our new manager has a better reputation in terms of his ability as a coach, however, he appreciates that he doesn’t know it all, hence the reason he has always surrounded himself with figures who have been there and done it – Jan Wouters being one and Jean-Paul van Gastel the other.

Van Gastel is reportedly following Van Bronckhorst – although subsequent stories are querying this claim – to Ibrox and if you have never heard of him or don’t know what he will offer Vital Rangers can offer some reassurance because, according to our source, Feyenoord would “never have been so successful” without him – having a tactics guru to offer insight and co-ordinate training is an essential member of any management team.

It’s encouraging that our new gaffer appears to have the humility required to be a success, with Roy Makaay also expected to arrive, we are starting to see the coaching team take shape, a coaching team that will hopefully take us to the next level.
