‘He’s ready’ – Gerrard singles out fringe Rangers man for praise and hints at future inclusion

|

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard was pleased with the performance of Nikola Katic on Sunday and has hinted at more regular starts for the young Croatian, as reported by BT Sport.

The centre-back started his first match since November in a 3-0 win away to Livingston, delighting supporters with an accomplished defensive performance alongside Joe Worrall.

Fans have been clamouring for the player to start more matches and going by the reaction of Gerrard after the match, they may get their wish.

Asked if the Livi display would boost to Katic’s confidence, as quoted by BT Sport, the Ibrox boss said:

It should do. I thought he was very good today very dominant. There were a couple of little moments we will speak to him but in the main I thought he was very strong.

He’s shown since we came back from the break that he’s ready.

He’s pushed for a start and he got it today and he’s taken his chance.

With Connor Goldson hopefully returning from injury soon, we may see a reunion of the defensive partnership that pleased supporters so much during the European qualifying run.

Katic burst into the first-team and looked to have cemented his position in the first-team before eventually dropping out for Worrall and becoming something of a fringe player in recent months.

With performances like yesterday’s though he won’t be on the substitute’s bench much moving deeper into the season.
