Kemar Roofe reached out on social media today to thank everyone who has supported him in recent weeks.

The Walsall born hitman bagged a brace yesterday, as Rangers dominated Cove Rangers 4-0 in the Scottish Cup Third Round tie at Ibrox.

He was at his clinical, reactive best in the penalty box, finishing decisively and probably shoud have has another one or two goals.

Over the last few weeks, Roofe has had to overcome injury troubles as well as the storm of racism and abuse that followed the Slavia Prague second leg in the Europa League.

Of course, he was involved in the nasty incident with Slavia keeper Ondrej Kolar who received a bad facial injury as Roofe made a high-foot attempt to get to the ball.

This incident, combined with the Kudela-Kamara fracas, has resulted in a tirade of online abuse coming Roofe’s way – disgusting comments and graphics that he should not have to deal with.

Today, as above, Roofe stated:

I’m dedicating my two goals today to everyone that has supported me over the last few weeks….I see all the positive messages you are sending me and appreciate it a lot!”

It is great to see that he is taking some warmth and positivity from the many well wishes being sent his way, to counteract the nasty and vindictive racism.

Yesterday, the Daily Record publicised Roofe’s revelations on the extent of the hate that he has received via social media, whilst demanding that those platforms take tougher action.

It is not acceptable and pressure must continue on the powerful companies to deliver what is within their capabilities.

On the pitch, it was great to see the Rangers star back in form and hitting the net – there will be plenty more opportunities over the coming weeks to add further to his tally.
