However this eventually came after a goalless first half with Mark Warburton admitting to rangers.co.uk he needed to have some words at half time.

Warburton wasn’t happy with the first half against Dumbarton and wasn’t backwards in coming forwards in admitting as much, he said.

‘We created a lot of chances and got the four goals and in truth it could have possibly been more.

‘As a group we were disappointed, it’s not about me or David or any individual player, it is about the group and demanding the right standards.’

Rangers had much of the possession in the first half but didn’t do enough with it.

In the second half though it was much more to the standard the Gers boss expects, and demands, from his side.

He added.

‘First-half we were lose, slopping in possession and we didn’t get to the ball quick enough and although we had 70% plus possession of the ball we didn’t really hurt them.

‘The second-half was, to use a term from Jason Holt, night and day! That is the standard we have to set day in and day out.

‘We demanded that we started hard and fast and we did and we have to be relentless in what we do.’

Jason Holt got the second period off to a great start when he scored minutes into the second half and then the floodgates opened, but it wasn’t until the final minutes the four-nil gloss was put on the scoreline.

Defensively Warburton didn’t think he could have asked for more with him now looking ahead to another tough meeting with Raith on Saturday.

‘I thought the two centre-halves were magnificent tonight, they stepped in and won the ball first and got first contact, they used it really well so well done to them.

‘It is a very pleasing result, we are three points clear and the focus now is Saturday.

‘You saw tonight with nine men behind the ball and Raith will be a tough test, there is no doubt they are a good quality team and we had to be very good on the day to beat them in September.’

In another interview on rangers.co.uk Andy Halliday talked about his first goal for Rangers, of course his boyhood side, at Ibrox when he converted from the penalty spot.

He’s waited for his chance to take a penalty; with Martyn Waghorn already off he got it and took it with him admitting this dream come true did come with some nerves too.

‘It’s been a long time coming, and I’ve known since the start of the season that I am second on the list for penalty takers, and as soon as Martyn went off I was hoping that we’d get a penalty today!

‘When I got it, I actually felt a little bit nervous for the first time in a while, and I started to laugh as I could feel the importance of the moment for myself with all my friends and family being in the stadium.’

His goal was one of the four second half strikes with him echoing Warburton’s thoughts the first half wasn’t good enough.

Nevertheless he still wanted to take the positives from that opening 45-minutes with a much better second half, adding.

‘It was really sluggish in the first half, but at the same time, when you are sluggish and you’re not doing well but you do the right things, you take the positives as for as poor as we were, we still kept a lot of possession and kept using the switch of play quite a lot which was obviously going to tire them out.

‘Don’t get me wrong though, it wasn’t good enough in the first half in terms of creating chances, but thankfully we put it right in the first half and scored four good goals.’
