I’ll be honest, I’m starting to get a little bit worried now, why hasn’t Connor Goldson signed a new contract?

The season, in reality, was finished a long time ago, there have been no distractions – other than parties – and there is a very clear and obvious decision for Goldson to make, either extend your contract or look for another club.

Whilst thinking about why he isn’t being considered for England selection, when you compare him to those that are ahead of him, you can understand why he might be hesitant to commit to Rangers for another few years.

At 28-years old he is approaching his peak years as a centre-half and his next move, whether that is to stay at Ibrox or head to pastures new, could define his career, yes, he has the opportunity to play in the Champions League with Rangers but, as we’ve seen in recent years, a move to even a mid-table Premier League side could be enough to see him called up to play for England.

He has also clearly put to bed any doubts about his fitness having barely missed a minute since arriving in Glasgow, he is an almost perfect physical specimen now and has improved technically every season he has been at the club, that he won Steven Gerrard’s Player of the Year says it all about his influence in the dressing room and on the park.

If we get into June and there is still no announcement we need to face up to the inevitable, the vice-captain probably isn’t going to be around next season, we’ll be gutted, but he’ll leave a legend and with our best wishes.
