On loan Rangers defender Dorin Goian could return to Rangers in January with Italian Serie B club Spezia rumoured to be ready to end his loan contract early.

The Romanian centre-back has had a miserable time of it in Italy. He has been red carded twice already and also received a four match ban after an altercation with a referee. Despite the transfer embargo and Rangers being unable to register players unti September 1st. It’s understood that if he did return Rangers would be able to register him as a returning player.

Ally McCoist said: “I think that is the case that he could return. I don`t know 100 per cent but I believe he could come back if he was released from the club in Italy. I know he has had a tough time of it with a couple of red cards and that is an option we would certainly explore if it came to be. There is nothing concrete there yet and I haven`t spoken to Dorin in the last two or three weeks. I think either Andrew Dickson or myself will touch base with him with a courtesy call more than anything.”
