Rangers may not be able to register players until 1 September but Rangers can still snap up free agents and play them from 1 September, and boss Ally McCoist is on the look out for new talent.

McCoist said: McCoist added: “I’m working closely with Neil (Murray, chief scout) at the moment. We`re looking at free transfers and players whose contracts are out in the summer. It gives us an opportunity to be ahead of schedule in terms of signing players. That would be a big plus, although the down side of that at the minute is we don`t know what league we are going into.

He continued: “We`re obviously faced with the same problem as we had in the summer and there is talk of league reconstruction. Ideally we`ll be going into SFL2 through promotion but at this moment in time we don`t know exactly where we`ll be. I believe there is still the possibility of reconstruction but I would imagine time is probably running out for that to happen next year but it looks to be on the cards.’
