Giovanni van Bronckhorst has bolstered his backroom team at Ibrox with the arrival of Welshman, Ceri Bowley.

Previously with the City Football Group, Bowley has started work already as a first team coach at Auchenhowie with a stated remit to make an impact in player development.

In working under van Bronckhorst, Bowley joins Dave Vos, Roy Makaay, Arno Philips and Yori Bosschart as well as Colin Stewart.

This acquisition has been in the pipeline for some time and now is officially confirmed.

Gio previously worked with Bowley during his own short stint with the CFG and said of the Welshman:

“He will join my staff and help all of us to improve our players, and the players will work closely with him to make sure their development goes faster.”

“We have identified areas that we want to see improvement in, so I am really happy that he has joined us.”

If the arrival of another coach to the first team set-up is to result in improvements within the squad, then it will be very welcome. In areas such as technique and consistency, there is certainly still room for such scaling up in the output of several Rangers first team players.

Having come from a background at CFG covering coach recruitment, coach development and the overall football methodology utilised  by its network of clubs including Man City, Melbourne, Yokohama F Marinos, Girona and New York, Ceri Bowley should have plenty to offer Rangers overall and not just on the training pitch.

This is an intriguing appointment so it will be good to hear more in due course.
