At least somebody was having a good night at Ibrox on Wednesday.

The Ajax fans, in fairness, were probably as good as we have seen since returning to European football, an early goal and a confidence that you are about to batter the opposition probably does that to a fan base – as does spending the day “warming up”

There’s not been much to sing about for Rangers fans though, last season the Ibrox atmosphere won plaudits from across the continent and became a genuine weapon both for us, and in the conscious of opponents. It’s safe to say that this year hasn’t been quite as memorable.

There seemed to be little chance of the crowd intimidating their players or Ajax fans and, when a rendition of the away team’s anthemic “Three Little Birds” broke out, it hit harder than it normally does. The Dutch giants have an enduring relationship with the music legend to the extent that they even commissioned an away strip to celebrate the Jamaican.

Few in the 50,000 support would have felt that everything was “going to be alright” when we went 2-0 down, however, one steward didn’t seem to be too perplexed. Either somebody was happy in their work or someone who might not be to bothered about Rangers struggling, I’ll let you do the maths.

Alfredo Morelos has his own Bob Marley rendition, although he’ll need to get his goalscoring boots back on the right feet if we are to hear it more regularly again – given our current predicament though, it’s quite hard to heed Marley’s advice and not “worry about a thing”.
