Reports in Italy last week suggested that one-time Gers target, Ola Solbakken, was close to being announced as a Roma player. The Norwegian international famously destroying Jose Mourinho’s side last season.

Solbakken is, on paper at least, exactly what we have been missing in our attack this season. Someone who can provide a genuine goal threat as well as a creativity from wide areas.

It’s almost incredible to think that, with 30 goals, we have surpassed our tally for every season since 2006/07 bar one – 2020/21 – after the first round of fixtures, and yet, our wingers have fewer goals than our defenders.

Solbakken would be the perfect addition to our squad and at a reported £20,000 a week, he would be on a similar wage to Glen Kamara and Ianis Hagi and still quite a bit below our top earners. Speaking about the recent speculation, the 6ft 1inch winger, as told by Roma Press, said:

“My story with Bodo/Glimt has probably come to an end. I realise it must be frustrating for the club to know that they won’t earn any money from my sale.”

So, he’s obviously agreed to a Bosman move somewhere, it’s just “where?” that is the question.

We will never know what truly goes on behind the scenes and who we have tried to buy but you would think that Solbakken would definitely have been on our radar, he ticks every box of our player trading model.

After such a poor European campaign, Rangers fans could really do with a lift, acquiring a player like Solbakken would go some way to making up for not investing after we beat PSV Eindhoven, a decision that is as baffling now as it was when the transfer window shut.
