Manager Steven Gerrard has spoken very positively about Rangers’ signing of Glen Kamara on transfer deadline day, as reported by The Daily Mail.

Kamara had already signed a pre-contract with the club earlier in January, but it was still something of a surprise to see him arrive at Ibrox hours before the window shut.

With midfield competition fierce at the club already, you might be forgiven for thinking that we might not see much of Kamara in the second half of the season, but hearing what Gerrard had to say about the acquisition could change your mind.

As quoted by The Daily Mail, the Gers boss said:

He’s had no game time and he hasn’t really trained much. We will build him up to get him up to speed, but you can see in training the quality is there to see.

I love my midfield players who play with their head up, who look to pass forward and make things happen, and I like my midfielders to win the ball back and be aggressive.

We believe we can help Glen improve and find the next level but the coaches he has had previously have done a fantastic job.

Clearly the former Liverpool midfielder is a big fan of the Finnish international and feels he can compete alongside the likes of Scott Arfield and Steven Davis in the middle of the park.

Kamara is probably a little more forward thinking than both and could be that elusive link between midfield and attack we have been crying out for all season.

A product of the Arsenal academy, he has about as good a football education as can be expected and under a former midfield general like Gerrard could see his game move onto new heights.

I can’t wait to see him in action.
