Rangers will need defensive signings this summer with Joe Worrall and Gareth McAuley on their way out of the club, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The paper reckon the duo are both ‘expected to leave’ the Rangers squad this summer, with Worrall set to return to his parent club Nottingham Forest and Gareth McAuley’s contract due to expire.

There seems little prospect of Forest loaning Worrall back to Ibrox next term and a permanent move seems just as unlikely.

McAuley meanwhile has hardly played since signing until the end of the season last September, making just 10 appearances in total.

The Scottish Sun say John Souttar is one potential replacement at centre-back but with English Championship clubs like Derby County also interested in his services, that suddenly looks like an expensive transfer fight, with Hearts probably in no rush to sell.

In a summer transfer window about adding quality rather than quantity to the squad, it all puts a bit of pressure on Steven Gerrard and Mark Allen’s shoulders to find a first-team defender who can compete with Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic for a starting spot.

Hopefully the club can deliver the player required.
