A former manager of Rangers target Jake Hastie has tipped him to arrive at Ibrox and make an impact in Steven Gerrard’s first-team squad, as reported by The Daily Record.

Hastie is widely reported to be on the verge of signing a pre-contract with the Gers.

Alloa boss Jim Goodwin gave the winger an opportunity to shine on loan in the first half of this season, a stage that ultimately led to his introduction into the Motherwell first-team in January.

And he’s spoken in glowing terms about his ability, believing he has the attributes necessary to take the modern game by storm.

As quoted by The Daily Record, Goodwin said:

Jake is a top professional who really looks after himself well and trains really hard. Obviously you need to be strong minded to play for any of the Old Firm because of that level of expectation and the demands of winning every game.

He’s only a kid but I’m confident he can go to Rangers, get a good pre-season under his belt and hopefully make an impact.

Whether he goes there and plays regularly or not is up to Jake and how well he does but they’re buying a player with great potential.

The modern day game is all about pace and power and Jake has that in abundance. In one of his early games for us against Dundee United at Tannadice he terrorised the right back and we knew then we had ourselves a player.

Hastie has scored seven top-flight goals since bursting into the ‘Well senior side in January, emerging as one of the most exciting young players in the country.

The 20-year-old can play on either flank and that versatility could ensure he gets plenty of action next season, especially if Ryan Kent does not sign up for a second season on loan from Liverpool.

On a free transfer, save for compensation, his arrival appears to be an excellent bit of business by the club and I can’t wait to see him in action.
