Rangers manager Steven Gerrard was left confused by Borna Barisic’s reaction to an apparent injury during the friendly win against Helsinki today at Ibrox.

A match arranged in the deal for Alfredo Morelos, the Gers squad had the chance to build up some match fitness after the winter break.

It was a 90 minutes that became especially useful in the wake of Friday’s cancelled match against Cowdenbeath, with Gerrard having the opportunity to give new signings like Jermain Defoe a run out.

There was concern in the second half when defender Borna Barisic went down with an apparent injury, looking like he was in significant pain.

Gerrard though confirmed he isOK after the match, taking issue with the way the Croatian reacted.

Speaking to Rangers TV, when asked about the injury the boss said: “I don’t know, you’ll have to ask Borna. He had me worried because he tapped the floor about 55 times, but I’m not sure, you’ll have to ask Borna. He looks like he’s moving okay now.”

He didn’t sound too happy and has previously criticised the left-back for his fitness issues this season, speaking to press in Tenerife during the warm weather training camp.

Is he concerned that Barisic is making more of injury problems than is merited? It’s one to watch over the coming weeks and months.
