Steven Gerrard to Everton? Yes, silly season is well and truly upon us.
There are several reasons why that move isn’t happening.
As if it needs to be said, but Gerrard will not win his ultimate move to Liverpool by leading a successful Everton team…maybe the opposite.
Nor is he going to head for the opposite end of Stanley Park, giving up a shot at the Champions League and a title defence in the process.
Rangers legend Ally McCoist is firmly of the same mindset and he shot down the rumours with aplomb, even having a laugh at his own expense.
As reported by the Glasgow Times, McCoist was quizzed on the matter on his regular slot with the TalkSport breakfast show – his response was emphatic:
“He’s got Champions League football to look forward to! He’s looking to get two in a row!”
“We’ve just for the second year in a row – and we’ve not had any supporters in all season – we’ve just sold 40,000 season tickets.”
“The club’s going through the roof!”
“He’s on board, he’s going into his fourth season having won the championship in his third, he’s got a board that back him, he’s doing ever so well.”
“Come on guys, let’s be realistic about this. There’s a better chance of me being the Everton manager than Steven Gerrard!
“There are one or two things that only Steven would be able to answer and the Everton job is a fantastic job.
“But let’s not kid ourselves on, it’s not for Steven Gerrard at this moment in time.”
As was usually the case in his playing days, Ally McCoist hits the target and does not miss.
