Rangers huffed and puffed their way to a 0-0 draw against Livingston at the weekend to remain in top spot in the Premiership and to go six points clear of Celtic.

Several of Steven Gerrard’s side underperformed and Kris Boyd, speaking on Sky Sports, reported by The Daily Record, claimed that Alfredo Morelos could’ve done more to help his team, both when he was on, and coming off the pitch.

So what has Boyd said?

When analysing the Colombian international’s performance, start to the season and reaction to being subbed, he said:

“Alfredo Morelos, everyone has been telling me he’s back scoring goals – and he has a couple – but his all round play and everything else is not good enough.

“Again, coming here today, he’s got a young boy coming on for him in Itten and I know he’s a young boy himself but he goes off in a mood.

“I get not being happy that you’re being taken off but you’ve got to show respect to your team-mates.

“You’ve got a guy coming on for an opportunity to maybe go and get a winning goal. Go give him some words of wisdom and try and push him on.”

So is Boyd correct?

It’s a little bit hypocritical judging a player’s mentality coming from a man who once told Walter Smith it was “too hot” to play at half-time of a Scottish Cup final but he does have a point.

Point gained or two points dropped?

Morelos will never be happy about being taken off, he lives for scoring goals, but he now has to realise that there are other options on the bench and that it is a team game, he doesn’t carry the sole responsibility of scoring goals.

There’s nothing more he can do once his number goes up, Boyd is right, a word of encouragement or advice wouldn’t do any harm, but if he has any more performances like the one against Livingston, he might be spending more time on the touchline than at any other point in his Rangers career.
