Who would have thought that Rangers season would come down to a mid-week clash against Aberdeen in the middle of March? That’s the situation that Steven Gerrard’s men now find themselves in, with an SPFL title charge looking unlikely.

The Scottish Cup quarter-final replay is a big game for the Gers, as it represents the club’s only real chance at silverware this season.

Ahead of the game, Steven Gerrard has issued a rallying cry to his players in an attempt to get a good result.

As per the official Rangers Twitter page, he said: “We’ve got a big, tough challenge smacking us in the face tomorrow & we need to go and perform at a level that is capable of us getting the right result.”

Gerrard isn’t beating around the bush here. He’s trying his best to elicit a reaction from his players, as there’s simply no way back from here. A loss and Rangers will likely be trophyless for another season. A win and everything is still to play for. Fine margins will be the difference.

There have been moments this season where when the going has got tough, the Gers have crumbled. Of course, it has also gone the other way, most notably when we managed to beat Celtic in the Old Firm derby – but it’s vitally important that the latter version of the team turns up tomorrow.

We simply cannot afford anything else – and Gerrard recognises that.
