Rangers have been linked with a move for former England international and one time Tottenham Hotspur target, Saido Berahino, according to rumours in Belgium.

The Daily Record reports that VoetbalNieuws has linked the striker – currently at Zulte Waregem in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League – to a summer move to Ibrox with Steven Gerrard scouring far and wide to improve his attacking options.

Berahino scored eight goals and had three assists in 22 appearances as he attempted to get his career back on track following his disastrous spell at Stoke City where he scored just five times in 56 appearances following his £12million move from West Brom.

He initially signed a two-year deal when leaving Stoke on a free transfer – less than half way through a five and a half year contract – and with him entering the last year, he wouldn’t command too high a transfer fee if Gerrard felt that he could trust the 26-year old to fit into his squad and style of play.

Unfortunately over the last few seasons, Berahino is better known for his off field antics and inability to toe the line with reports of him turning up late for reserve games and being charged with drink driving.

Gerrard has enough to worry about next season without having to deal with problematic signings should things not go their way, he has already shown in the case of Kyle Lafferty and more recently with Jordan Jones that he doesn’t suffer fools gladly in his attempts to return Rangers back to the summit of Scottish football.

With no news on the future of Florian Kamberi – who’s attitude was exemplary in his time at the club, added to his ability to impact a game off the bench – Rangers fans will be hoping that reinforcements can be added to the signing of Ianis Hagi to take the goalscoring burden off Alfredo Morelos and the ageing Jermain Defoe as the Light Blues prepare for one of the biggest seasons in their history.
