Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is already talking to Liverpool about landing more young talent at Ibrox next season, as reported by The Scottish Sun.
The upcoming summer transfer window is a massive one for the club, with the recruitment team having to get almost every incoming transfer right if we are to close the gap on Celtic and compete for major honours again.
Critical to that strategy will likely be bringing in two or three loan players that can add real quality to the first-team squad, in a similar fashion to the Ryan Kent move this season.
Luckily Gerrard has the connections to make that happen and has already revealed he is in discussions with Liverpool about potential moves.
As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the Ibrox boss said:
I’ve already spoken to Liverpool about a number of players but what was said will remain private. Liverpool hold the cards with Ryan and all their players but I told them who I’d be interested in if they were available.
I’ve made it clear how much I want Ryan to come back but they didn’t need that meeting to know that, because I’ve said that before.
With Ryan it’ll boil down to what the player wants and whether Liverpool are happy to deliver that. All we can do is make sure we’re at the table and I can assure everyone that we’re at the table with an offer.
Whether the player wants that, whether Liverpool want that, we’ll have to wait and see, but it was important for me to speak to Liverpool and let them know we’re interested.
Obviously the priority when speaking to Liverpool will be securing Ryan Kent for another season but it’s also interesting to read Gerrard’s comments regarding ‘a number of players’ at Anfield.
That’s a hint that more than 22-year-old could be heading north in 2019/20, with Jurgen Klopp possessing a number of talented youngsters on the fringes of his first-team squad.
As we discussed last week, one of those is undoubtedly Rafa Camacho, who made his senior debut for the club this season and is just 18-years-old.
Is he one of the players Gerrard is looking at? We’ll have to wait and see.
