Rangers winger Ryan Kent isn’t just catching the eye of supporters this season, but also his opponents, with Hearts right-back Michael Smith stating he is the player of the year this season in Scotland.

Sadly Kent won’t be in action up against Smith later today when we make the trip to Tynecastle because of suspension.

It’s an absence that Smith admits is a relief considering the quality of the on-loan Liverpool man.

For the 30-year-old, there is no-one better in the Scottish Premiership right now.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the defender said:

Rangers are a good team with a couple of decent players missing in Kent and Alfredo Morelos. Theoretically, them being out should make it easier for us.

They are two fantastic players and Kent has had a great season.

I’ve come up against him directly and he’s a great player with his speed, his change of direction and his acceleration.

He’s as good as anyone I’ve ever played against. As a winger, he’s got what you need to get past players.

He’s really good at taking people on.

That’s why he’s had such a great season. He is my Player of the Year. I can’t think of anyone else who has been consistently as good. So I would vote for him.

There’s no doubt Kent has been one of the real signing successes of Steven Gerrard’s reign so far, thrilling supporters with his dynamic wing play and skill on the left flank.

That opponents consider him one of, if not the best players in the entire country speaks volumes for his development and improvement over the last eight months.

Hopefully Liverpool see that progress too and realise that another season on loan will help him further and ultimately increase his transfer value that much more.

If he can start adding more goals and assists to his all-round game, he will eventually go for a large fee somewhere.
