With goalkeeper Scott Gallagher’s loan spell at Airdrie coming to an end last month, and their decision to replace him with another keeper on loan, it looks like he will now see out the rest of this season with us, even though Ally McCoist had hoped to get him more games.

During his initial spell with Airdrie, the 24 year old played eight times before it expired, but as he can now only play for either Rangers or Airdrie, unless they do come back in for him, he will remain with us until the end of the campaign.

Of course, competition for between the sticks was already created when McCoist brought in Steve Simonsen as cover, to allow Gallagher out for games in the first place, so it hasn’t worked out ideally for the gaffer.

Speaking to the Official Site coach Ian Durrant explained.

‘Scott can only go back to Airdrie but they’ve taken someone else in on loan. That means he’ll be with us and he’s under contract here so that’s fine. It’s a shame for him because we’ve got so many goalkeepers here. Barring injuries to Cammy and Steve, Scott will be playing reserve football and he’ll still get a fair amount of games there, at his age, he has to be playing regularly.’

Not ideal and reserve football isn’t much of a substitute for regular competitive games in the league, but it is better than nothing and at least he did get a decent run during his last spell out on loan to help develop him further and give him greater experience.
