The English Premier League legend joins up to provide much needed firepower to Steven Gerrard’s attack, who have relied too heavily on the excellent Alfredo Morelos so far this season.
He has scored 163 goals in the English top-flight throughout his career and although he has not been getting a game for Bournemouth recently, he likely still has what it takes to poach goals in the Scottish Premiership.
It’s a fantastic budget signing in the short-term, with his addition providing a big boost to our hopes of delivering major honours this season.
No surprise then that supporters are hugely excited about seeing the 36-year-old in action after the winter break, believing he can bang in the goals on a consistent basis.
These fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts…

This time last season we had Graham Murty in charge and were excited about signing Jason Cummings.
Now it's Steven Gerrard and Jermaine Defoe.
Can't wait to see what happens when in the next 12 months

Win/Win for @RangersFC brilliant professional around the training ground, fit as a fiddle and an assassin in front of goal, could well be the genius move that captures the title back @IAmJermainDefoe #Defoe #Rangers
