Steven Gerrard has been given assurances that Rangers won’t be selling Alfredo Morelos during the January transfer window, despite the arrival of Jermain Defoe on an 18-month loan.

Morelos has had an excellent season and a half at Ibrox, sparking interest from clubs abroad, but The Scottish Sun cite senior Ibrox sources, who insist that the manager has been told the Colombian will be a part of their Scottish Premiership title bid.

That will be brilliant news for every Rangers supporter, almost all of whom have taken great delight in the form of the striker over the last few months.

The 22-year-old has scored a fantastic 20 goals so far this term, also creating 10 assists for his teammates. That’s a direct goal contribution far beyond anyone else in the country right now and holding on to him is absolutely critical if we are to challenge for major honours.

The addition of Defoe should be to complement the busy forward and hopefully Steven Gerrard will consider playing both of them at the same time against lesser opposition.

We can’t wait to see what signings the club make over the coming days and weeks!
