Former Rangers manager Mark Warburton has suggested that the club can challenge Celtic for the title in the seasons to come, but that they need a similar player to one they’ve got.

The title race has been close at times this campaign but in recent weeks we have lost a bit of momentum and that has seen them pull away.

However, we are close and they know it, whilst Warburton thinks that we can challenge them more if we get someone in like Tom Rogic.

Speaking to Open Goal and Si Ferry, he said:

“Do I think Rangers will win it this year? I hope they do. I don’t think they’ve got enough this year to win it.

“I think Celtic will win it this year, next year is the year for Rangers for me. It gives Steven time to settle in players and make one or two changes, but I don’t think they’ve got a Rogic type.

“I don’t think they’ve got that number 10 who’s so clever that he makes the team tick.”

Warburton obviously has his allegiance towards us and that is nice to see but there’s no reason why one of our players can’t step up into that 10 role – maybe Greg Docherty next season?

For sure, though, he has got a point and maybe that is what Steven Gerrard will be looking to amend come the summer window opening up for business.
