Giovanni van Bronckhorst has declared himself more than happy with the first two weeks of his reign with his team still unbeaten.

The results have been excellent but even more pleasing has been the level of performance and the way that the Rangers squad has reacted to the changes implented by the Dutchman and his staff.

In the first half of the game last night in Lyon, the Scottish champions looked comfortable and accomplished against a very good team and the goal scored by Scott Wright was very well taken, following excellent build up play from Ryan Kent and Glen Kamara.

In the second half, the French side responded and were much better in their own display, providing a tough test for the Gers. The game could have went either way in the end following late chances for both teams so the draw was probably a fair result.

However, after the game, GvB announced his satisfaction with the progress of his team after only a couple of weeks:

“I think we were very happy with the performance. Especially away from home in Europe it can be really tough. Today we faced a tough opponent but we were very brave when we had ball possession and we tried to play our possession game from the back and many times we had the right solutions.”

“I’m very happy with the message we sent as a team. We came here not to defend but to play our game and develop our team. It’s only my fifth game in charge and I’m happy they are picking up my style of play and in that aspect, I’m very happy.”

Progress

It is a very exciting time for the Rangers supporters, with the new regime just getting started.

Already the team looks more balanced and settled, tighter in defence and more vibrant overall. Another very tough test awaits on Sunday at Tynecastle but it is one that the champions will relish.

The games are coming thick and fast in December, but with this can be the month to truly propel the title charge, in the lead up to the all important Old Firm derby on January 2nd.
