Lewis Macleod has said he will be working hard over the summer now to get back to a good level of full fitness so he can hit the ground running as Rangers began stage three of our journey back to the top flight.

The midfielder has spent nigh on four months out with a serious viral infection that hit him hard back in January and put an end to his League One campaign, and there were fears that it could affect his development and continued involvement in the game with many rumours doing the rounds, despite the club asking for everyone to respect his privacy and just wait for any official comment, but the player has remained in good spirits and is now looking forward to playing a full part in our Championship campaign.

Speaking to the Official Site Macleod said having come through his last round of tests with flying colours, he can now see a light at the end of the tunnel and it will be a case of getting himself ready so he can make up for some time when we return.

He has now returned to light training as he begins to build himself back up, but he is awaiting a final assessment from the medical staff and no doubt they’ll be keeping a close eye on him and his progress again now so he doesn’t over do things.

‘I’ve been training for the last two weeks, just keeping myself ticking over. The week before that I got some tests done. The results I think were positive so I’m just actually waiting on the official report to be sent up to confirm everything and what I’m meant to be doing. It’s looking like I should be back in pre season and I would be absolutely delighted if that was the case.’

Macleod goes on the say that getting the initial results back the other week were a huge relief for him and he feel much better in himself now, so he’s really looking forward to our new Championship season in 2014-15.

He goes on to say that all the players have their own fitness plans over the summer to keep them in good shape ahead of the return of pre season, but with him missing so much time he knows the more he can do – he’s obviously at a much lower fitness level to them at the moment – the better really, and not only will he have his own plan to follow but they’ll be gaps he can plug to get himself tip top again.

Of course, having spent three odd months out injured in both our previous campaigns, his hope for next season in that he can remain injury free completely and play as many matches as he possible can.
