Scottish manager Gordon Strachan has called up Cammy Bell for the friendly against Nigeria later this month.

Our goalkeeper has been selected as part of the 28 man squad that will travel to Fulham’s Craven Cottage for the friendly on May 28th.

Bell is one of four goalkeepers within the group, and though the overall squad does contain five fort Rangers players, Lee Wallace has missed out owing to the injury he sustained before the end of the season.

The 27 year old will be hoping to add to his one cap so far, which he gained when coming on as a substitute for Craig Gordon back in the 3-0 victory over Faroe Islands back in November 2010.

Having kept 26 clean sheets across the course of the season, getting on the pitch would be the perfect way for him to sign off 2013-14.

Speaking to the Official Site Bell said however that he wouldn’t be going simply to enjoy the travel and make up the numbers, and he’ll be doing all he can to fight for that starting spot with our former number one Allan McGregor, Cardiff’s David Marshall and Blackpool’s Matt Gilks.

‘It’s a great opportunity for me to get back involved for the first time since the start of last season. It’ll be the first time I’ll have been involved under Gordon. He’ll get to see me in training and hopefully I can get part of the game.’

Bell goes on to say that obviously Strachan will want to come out with the win, but being a friendly it is the chance to give some players match time so he can see how they perform, and he’s hoping he’ll get the nod, especially as McGregor has been struggling with an injury himself.
