“First choice” Barisic is the Croats inside man for Scotland mission

|

Croatia’s Borna Barisic will be more than familiar with a few of Scotland’s players when the teams meet later this month.

The Scottish Premiership title winner is something of an inside man for his nation, ahead of what could be a defining Group D clash.

It is England and the Czech Republic who make up the full quota in that particular group and given that four of the best third placed sides (across the six groups) in the tournament will proceed to the next round, every game matters.

If the Scotland v Croatia game effectively becomes a shootout, Barisic’s knowledge as well as his ability will be utilised to full effect by Zlatko Dalic’s side, as alluded to by squad member Josip Brekalo.

His comments were picked up by the Daily Record.

Brekalo stated, “Borna is excellent in the Scottish league.”

“He will be very important to us for advice when we play the match against Scotland.”

“Borna has managed to earn his place during the Nations League and qualifiers to become the first choice in that position.”

“He is a high quality player who can contribute a lot to us this summer.”

The Wolfsburg wide man is eagerly anticipating Sunday’s opener against England at Wembley in what was described as the “biggest game of my career”.
