There is one position in the Rangers team that appears to be up for grabs, and in reality, has never been nailed down by anyone since Steven Gerrard took over in 2018.

We’ve tried foreign imports, proven SPFL players and loan options from the Premier League but none of them have set the world alight.

This season Joe Aribo and Ianis Hagi have probably been the most productive on the right-hand side of our attack, either in a 4-3-3 or the 4-2-3-1 shape now used by Giovanni van Bronckhorst, but neither are at their best stuck out on the wing regardless of how many chances they might create.

One former target who could be an option is out and out wide man Zinedine Ferhat, the Nimes midfielder having been linked with a move to Rangers for much of last summer and saw moves to Ligue 1 also collapse after being relegated to Ligue 2.

Strangely, he has only played 400 minutes despite not being injured and having been their best player last season, in just a few weeks time he will be able to discuss a possible pre-contract move with his current deal soon to expire.

His valuation has dropped from £7.2million to £4.95m, over 30% off his value due to inactivity, not that it would have any bearing on negotiations should we still be interested though.

Who did GvB make his competitive Rangers debut against as a player?

Not having to put a square peg into a round hole would be a great option to have, a player that can score six goals and create 10 assists for a struggling side in one of Europe’s top leagues would surely be an asset for a team that dominates possession and an upgrade on the likes of Brandon Barker and even Scott Wright who, despite his positivity, is yet to prove that he has the cutting edge or composure to be anything more than a reliable back-up.

January is going to be very interesting, there are a few positions that need to be strengthened and we have a new manager who will want to implement his own ideas, at least we’ll have something to occupy us during the torture that is the winter break.
