The modern world of football and transfer rumours has come a long way since newspapers used to break stories off the back of leaks from club insiders, nowadays, sources and their reliability is based on how many followers they have on social media.

One such individual is Gustavo Hofman, a journalist for ESPN with over 350,000 followers on Twitter, who has linked Rangers with a familiar name from our Europa League exploits:

“Evander, at Futebol no Mundo podcast, confirmed today that he has an agreement with Midtjylland to be transferred till the end of this transfer window. No negotiations anymore with Galatasaray; Rangers and Copenhagen also demonstrated interest, he said.“

The 24-year old Brazilian, who operates mainly as a number eight or attacking midfielder, has been with the Danes since 2019 and has an impressive goals and assists record of roughly one every two games, the sort of numbers that we would love to have from a deeper position – Tom Lawrence currently showing that he could be the closest that we have to filling what has been a problem role for a few years now.

Galatasaray had previously been announced as having agreed a contract in principle, however,  that news would now appear to be false paving the way for a late move.

Evander wouldn’t come cheap though so any approach could well be dependent on our result against PSV Eindhoven next week, Giovanni van Bronckhorst has said he is happy with the squad he has at his disposal, however, I don’t think he’d turn down the chance to sign a player who would instantly suit his system and add creativity from behind the attack.

You never know, Evander might yet return to Glasgow to add to his Ibrox goal tally…
