When Will I See you Again?

Tonight, Manchester United go head to head against Villarreal in Gdansk, with the Europa League trophy on the line.

‘It should have been us’ a few Rangers fans have stated online today but the reality is that we weren’t quite good enough at Ibrox to proceed past Slavia in the round of 16.

Had that tie been negotiated, a trip and a clash with Arsenal was on the cards in the last eight but as we know, it was not to be.

13 years have now passed since Rangers faced Dick Advocaat’s Zenit St Petersburg in Manchester – what a journey and an occasion but will we, can we see it again?

It will be a formidible task, given the budgets and quality of the club sides who are usually found in the latter stages of the tournament nowadays.

Take this season for example, Man United, Roma, Arsenal, Villarreal made up the semi-finalists – very tough.

They eliminated Granda, Ajax, Slavia and Dinamo Zagreb – those last two clubs are well with Rangers reach so it does show what it possible with evolution, progression and a wee bit of luck.

Plenty of us will tune in to the game tonight, with a slight indulgence of ‘what if’ – it’s only natural and it just underlines the allure and appeal of European football.

According to Eurosport, approximately 9500 fans will be present inside the Stadion Miejski, home of Lechia Gdansk.

Hopefully as many match going fans – of both clubs – as possible, will get in to the ground.

The game kicks off at 8pm and is broadcast live in the UK on BT Sport, free to view for all.
