Carlos Mendes Gomes is attracting interest from Rangers and the club have reportedly made contact about a summer switch to Glasgow.

The 22-year old is currently enjoying a fine season at English League Two outfit Morecambe, where he has gained an uplift in exposure and publicity.

That has came thanks to his exploits on the pitch, as well as the fascinating back-story with Mendes Gomes.

Born in Dakar, Senegal, but raised in Lanzarote, Spain, the attacker was picked up by Atletico Madrid and honed his talents at Los Colchoneros academy.

A family relocation to the UK meant another journey for the resilient Morecambe man but before he landed at The Shrimps, he put in the hard yards with non-league West Chortlton & Didsbury.

This season, Mendes Gomes has recorded 12 goals from 38 League Two appearances.

That form has attracted the glare of Rangers, as reported by The Sun in England before the story was picked up by its Scottish sister paper.

“The Senegal-born attacker, 22, has been watched a number of times this season and the Scottish champions have contacted the League Two side about a potential move.”

“SunSport also understands Rangers have done their due diligence on the ex-Atletico Madrid youth.”

Challenge

Unfortunately for Morecambe, the player is out of contract at the end of the season having not signed a contract extension up to now – as well as Rangers, Blackburn and Preston are also said to be interested.

With a turn of pace and a trick up his sleeve, Mendes Gomes is an ‘entertainer’ who operates mostly on the right-wing.

The lad clearly has talent but can he step up through the leagues to the level required at Ibrox?

This move would represent a low-risk chance worth taking, with potential as well as ability – combined with tough life experience, this player appears ready for his next challenge.
