Former player and current Rangers TV guest Alex Rae believes that Ryan Kent is a £25 million player.

Rae, who realised his boyhood dream to play at Ibrox – late in his career under Alex McLeish – believes that the Englishman has the lot and is only going to get better.

Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds are known to be tracking the former Liverpool man as long-term admirers – they previously had a bid rejected by Rangers with a mooted £14 million fee.

Rae was speaking on The Rangers Connection podcast following the Gers 2-1 victory over Hibs yesterday afternoon.

It was Kent’s superb individual effort that clinched the game for Steven Gerrard’s men – a goal of the highest calibre.

His manager hailed the ‘world class’ effort.

Former Wolves, Sunderland and Millwall midfielder Rae stated, “If £14 million is what Leeds were looking to roughly pay, I think he’s gone again. Looking at the stats this year, his performance levels, the European performances.”

“I would say 25 plus. Without a doubt. The modern day player? You have a guy who is 24 who has all of his best years ahead of him.”

“I just think with the performances, there will be a few people knocking at the door and I think it is a big year.”

“We raised certain questions about Ryan Kent in periods through the season in terms of stats” – this is something we looked at yesterday on VitalRangers, here.

“In his last nine games, he has five goals. He now has 12 goals and 13 assists. He has contributed in 25 goals this season.”

“He still has a long way to go, but those are impressive stats,” said Rae who is a regular across TV and radio, providing analysis and insight on the Scottish game.

Developments

Rangers will be gearing up over the summer for an assault on the Champions League, looking to add quality to the starting eleven.

Despite that, interest from other clubs in the Champions is an inevitability – it is not unreasonable to expect two current prominent players to move on.

If the money is right, that could include Kent but he will not be sold for a penny less than what he is worth – that is for sure.

It remains to be seen how the market and player valuations will respond following the impact of the pandemic but regardless of that, a very intriguing transfer window lies ahead.
