With youngster Andy Murdoch scoring his first goal in last night’s two one victory over Raith Rovers, Gordon Durie has been singing his praises.

Speaking to the Official Site following his role in the development of the player as his coach at under 20 level, Durie says he couldn’t have been more proud or pleased to have seen the 20 year old talent make the step up to first team life – especially as he’s done it with a certain ease.

With Murdoch opening the scoring for us, and his own professional tally to boot, Durie explained.

‘It was a great goal for Andy and brilliant for him to get his first one and it was no surprise because I’ve seen him do it a few times before for the under 20s. But not only that, his performance, his work rate and enthusiasm have been a different class. Anyone who comes into the Rangers team right now has to be enthusiastic and keep their jersey and Andy has done that in bucket loads.’

Durie goes on to say that following his performance in the last game, he kept his place purely on merit and he deserved it and importantly for the club, those are the types of performances we need from players as we look to get ourselves going again properly given results.

‘That is the kind of performances we’re needing, not just from him but from all the team. We got both a performance and result this week – the performance was good last week but at the end of the day we lost 2-0. We probably made it a wee bit hard for ourselves, but I thought all in all we thoroughly deserved the three points.’
