The name of Siriki Dembele is one that continues to be linked with Rangers.

The 24-year old Peterborough United attacker has been developing at the Posh in England’s League 1 and even with their promotion to the Championship, there appears to be an impasse with his club alluding to agitation from his agent in trying to engineer a move away from London Road.

Peterborough supremo Barry Fry is no shrinking violet and he has been clear as to what he sees behind speculation of a move.

For some time, Rangers, Celtic – where his brother Karamoko plays – and a host of English clubs have been linked with the London-born player but Fry has dismissed the talk.

As reported by the Record, he stated:

“As for Siriki I suspect that’s his agent trying to drum up interest. I’ve heard nothing from any of those clubs.”

“Fulham have been interested in Siriki for a while, but I’ve had no contact from them recently.”

Dembele was transfer listed by Peterborough last month as contract talks on a new deal stalled.

VitalRangers verdict

Morelos – Roofe – Sakala – Itten – Defoe.

With that formidable line-up, just where does another first team striker fit in?

Steven Gerrard is always on the look out for additions to improve the first team and quality of the squad overall, but considering Rangers options up front it would appear that there will need to be a departure or two before any further front men are acquired.

Given the current situation with a strong squad at Ibrox, any signings are likely to follow once the class of European football for the season ahead is known.

Qualification for the Champions League will surely allow significant money to be spent, but regardless, a sale or two is very possible.

All things considered, this reported move seems very unlikely to happen any time soon.
