Deal “agreed” as 25-yo Ger gets set for Europa League move

|

One of Ross Wilson’s biggest jobs this summer was moving on the players who hadn’t been contributing or who had been deemed surplus to requirements for the first team, so far, things have gone well with Jack Simpson, Jake Hastie, Glenn Middleton, Cedric Itten and Mateusz Zukowski all at new clubs, there is though, still, one or two more still to go.

One of those, and probably the most obvious, is Niko Katic. Ryan Jack starting at centre-half against Queen of the South tells you everything you need to know about his future at the club but he might get the chance to play Europa League football this season if a report by a fellow Croatian is accurate.

Journalist Izak Ante Sucic has claimed that FC Zurich – who knocked Hearts out of the Europa League – have signed the giant defender and he could make his debut as early as this weekend:

“The Glasgow Rangers stopper, who spent last season on loan in Hajduk, is a new member of the Swiss side Zurich. According to information from Germanijak, Katic agreed on all the details regarding the continuation of his career in the photo finish of the transition period.”

Katic should be the sort of player that we don’t make a significant loss on given that he played more than enough games last season to prove that he is over his knee injury and because we only paid around £2million to sign him in the first place, his experience of the Europa League and Old Firm derbies also make him a better player than when he first arrived.

He was always popular with fans because of his aggressive style of play, however, we have moved on as a team and being confident on the ball is just as important as being able to win physical duels and, unfortunately for him, there are others ahead of him in the queue now – his header at Parkhead, for what it meant to fans, will never be forgotten though.
