The clock is ticking on the summer transfer window with timing running out to seal any last-minute deals, Rangers, with a few extra pounds on the way thanks to Champions League qualification, will be looking to add a new face or two.

Much of the squad was built before the Champions League qualifiers, however, there are still a couple of holes, if we are being picky. Recent speculation seeing Ross Barkley being linked with a move to the SPFL and Rangers the team that are considering a move.

Speaking to Football Insider, Alan Hutton reckons that his former club will now be looking to get quality additions through the door:

“I believe Giovanni van Bronckhorst had a plan A and a plan B depending on what happened with the Champions League.

“Hopefully they can go forward now and get their top targets.

“For Rangers still, centre-back is an issue. There’s issues up front. If the right opportunity comes about, I think they will strengthen.“

I agree with Hutton in that there is an issue up front, Antonio Colak can’t keep doing it on his own and, even when Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe return to fitness, we could still do with another option or a player capable of playing a couple of roles in the forward line – Fashion Sakala has that position just now but Gio just doesn’t seem to trust him.

In defence though, we are only temporarily short of numbers with Filip Helander, Ben Davies and John Souttar all expected to be back soon with James Sands and Leon King providing more than adequate cover in the short term.

For the first time in years we are in a good financial position, with Champions League football also secured, hopefully, we will make the most of it.
