Steven Davis has signed fresh 12 month terms at Ibrox, ensuring that he will remain a Rangers player into the 22/23 season.

In what will be the first of many deals to be concluded over the close season, the announcement came from the club this evening.

The skies aren’t grey and the Northern Ireland legend will continue to make the Rangers supporters happy for another season.

Quite clearly, Giovanni van Bronckhorst believes that the Ulsterman still has plenty to offer on the pitch, in addition to all that he brings to the squad and the club in other areas, as is well documented.

His recent performances in the two cup finals, the big stage where the 37-year old still excels, gave all the evidence required that Davis is still up to the task, as much as he won’t play in every game, or close to it next term.

The official statement quoted a very happy man who got what he wanted with his short-term future sealed:

“I am absolutely delighted. It was a really important season for us last year, and to finish on a high with the Scottish Cup was important for the team and the group and we want to try and kick on again next year.”

Steven Davis in the Champions League at 37, that’s what we all want to see very soon. His games and the need for his influence will come depending on the situation, whilst in others he will sit out.

As long as the current situation remains, this deal represents low cost, zero risk business for the squad with significant money needed elsewhere for the required upgrades to make the next step.
