Steven Davis – Mr Dependable, you know what you are getting on the pitch and off it.

A constant, steady performer, the Northern Ireland captain rarely if ever falls below a 7 out of 10 performance and quite often exceeds that mark.

The veteran midfield playmaker got another season underway on Saturday with a typically assured performance as Rangers ran out 3-0 winners against Livingston.

However, in his post-match interview with Rangers TV, the four times Scottish title winner spoke about what lies behind the performances and the motivation that drives Steven Gerrard’s champions when he stated:

“There’s competition for places throughout the team so whenever you get the opportunity to play it’s important that you’ve got to do your best to keep that shirt.”

“That’s good for the club moving forward and we’re looking forward to an exciting season ahead.”

The professionalism just shines through Davis and that mentality will be drummed into the Rangers dressing room by the manager and the senior pros.

It was that leadership and direction from the likes of Davis and Allan McGregor last season, that helped guide this squad to get the title over the line with the standards remaining high.

Even with the example of the dropped points at Hamilton in the run-in, McGregor very quickly laid down the law when his teammates weren’t up to the job.

At this stage, the team is a greater position because of the journey in the last few years and what it has taken to arrive at their current position of strength.

Mentality is front and centre as a compenent, within the overall performance and application.
