Rangers’ squad is full of talent and quality, but there’s no denying that it could be better. Even though we don’t want to admit it, Celtic remain a few steps ahead of us, and it’s down to the Rangers brass and Steven Gerrard to reduce the gap.

Fortunately, Dave King has recently offered some news that is sure to please Rangers fans that are hoping for further and immediate growth.

Speaking at the AGM (Annual General Meeting), King has revealed some plans for the January transfer window, and it’s good news for the Gers.

As per the official Rangers website, he said: “I would be surprised if we don’t do some business in the January transfer window”.

Though he does go on to say that the chances of that happening, of course, depend on potential targets being available, this is still good news for the Gers. We brought in a lot of new faces over the summer, and it would have been easy for the Rangers brass to say that enough is enough for this season.

That’s evidently not the case. This does imply that King has been impressed by Gerrard, as we all have, and it also suggests that his ambitions remain lofty.

We aren’t settling for second-best, and the addition of a new face or two in January would certainly help to bridge the gap.

Is this the same as him committing to spending £20-30 million on new talent? No – but it does suggest that Gerrard will get the backing that he needs, and for that, we must be excited.

Thoughts? Who should we sign?
