Earlier today Rangers confirmed that the club and Fabio Cardoso had agreed a mutual termination of the remainder of his contract and he now leaves the club as a free agent.
The 24-year-old moved to Ibrox last summer from Vitoria Setubal for an undisclosed fee, but it was believed to be in the region of £1.5million and the Portuguese centre-half went on to only make 15 starting appearances for the club across all competitions, along with a further three showings from the substitutes bench.
As a more high profile signing alongside Bruno Alves, having to settle and not even being able to find a club willing to contribute and take him on a loan spell speaks volumes as to how bad our recruitment has been in previous seasons.
Despite having obvious talent on the ball, he struggled with the physical nature of our game and was frozen out after Pedro Caixinha moved on and he has become a forgotten man under new manager Steven Gerrard.
Seeing him move on isn’t a surprise, but moving at such a loss has rankled with the fans. Have to hope the settlement agreed was hugely in our favour though and it’s because he already has another club lined up.
It says a lot about us releasing Cardoso that we couldn’t even get a club to take him on loan started off ok but just fell away and wasn’t geared for Scottish football. £1.3m wasted ????

They money we´ve wasted due to signing Pedro Caixinha… Now Cardoso´s contract has been terminated. Caixina + Warburton will go down in history as 2 of our worst managers of all time on and off the pitch

Are you telling me no club in the world would of paid 10p for cardoso ? We had to pay him off ?
We are absolutely horrendous at selling/getting rid of people.

Its likely that clubs weren't willing to pay whatever wages Pedro had him on rather than being unwilling to pay for him.
Caixinha crippled us financially. Its genuine insanity.— Rob (@Newco_Rob) July 30, 2018
Cardoso released. Another huge waste of money.

Tell me about it, wtf is going on with this? Doesn’t make any sense…

Cardoso yet another expensive mistake. That’s the cost of hiring and backing a dud manager. So wasteful.

Yeah, no issue with him. Always seemed committed and gave his best. Ultimately just wasn’t good enough
