He is certainly not a Michael Mols and he won’t score as many as Kris Boyd did for Rangers, but Antonio Colak has proved a point on Saturday with his crucial opener against Kilmarnock.

After the unjust stinging criticism handed up in the wake of the major disappointment against USG, the right response materialised.

Just shy of the hour mark with the home crowd getting restless as their team strived to break the deadlock against Derek McInnes’ team, the Croatian international made his mark.

With space in the box, one touch to control was followed by a confident finish to give Colak his first competitive goal for the club. Given the weeks just past, it should have been his third following the wrongly given offside decision at Livingston then the near miss in the first half in Belgium. Regardless, we are where we are and the tall striker is now off the mark. That is the most important thing.

The Summer signing from PAOK will take confidence and belief from the goal as well as the acclaim from the Ibrox crowd for a strike that matters. He enjoyed the moment as explained to the press post-match:

“Of course, I’m really happy and it was an amazing feeling to score at Ibrox. It’s not always easy but of course, it’s the most important thing for a striker to start as early as possible in a season to score, this gives me a lot of confidence and an extra push for the upcoming games.”

“It’s giving me goosebumps scoring at Ibrox in front of our fans, I just want to have this feeling as often as possible because it gives me a lot of energy and confidence. I just try to take advantage of every situation, every chance. I want to be as successful as possible.”

A repeat or two on Tuesday would be most welcome.
