Former Rangers target Sean Longstaff has recently been scouted by Celtic after a move to Ibrox failed to materialise this summer.

The Newcastle Evening Chronicle reported back in January that the youngster was a subject of interest for the Gers, before shortly heading off on loan to Blackpool.

The paper reckoned that the Ibrox side would be back in for him in the summer transfer window.

However, that didn’t pan out and now Celtic are potentially on the hunt for his services after The Chronicle reported this week that the Hoops were in attendance to see him in action for the club’s U23s side.

Longstaff is highly-rated and although he is only 20 years of age he does have first-team experience after successful loan spells at Blackpool and Kilmarnock. He scored eight goals and assisted five times for the Seasiders last term.

He would appear to fit the signing profile that the club has pursued in recent transfer windows and with a number of midfield players leaving Ibrox after the expiration of their loans at the end of this season he could be a viable option to come in.

With our city rivals also interested, he’s one to keep an eye on in the season ahead.
